Giorgio Armani
A commemorative artistic tribute
In view of the first anniversary of Giorgio Armani’s passing, on the 4th of September, I painted this commemorative portrait as my personal tribute to one of the most distinguished and influential figures in Italian creativity, elegance, and culture. Through his unwavering vision, discipline, and sensitivity, Armani left an indelible mark on the history of design, art, and the cultural identity of our country.
As a fellow native of Piacenza, I felt a profound desire to dedicate this work to his memory, symbolically bringing together his universal legacy and the shared roots of the land from which we both came. It is my hope that this portrait may be received as a sincere expression of admiration and gratitude, and that it may ultimately find its rightful place within the collections of the Giorgio Armani Foundation, the Armani family, or another institution committed to preserving its significance.
The portrait depicts Giorgio Armani against the backdrop of Rivalta Castle, a place to which he was deeply attached and where he now rests. Through this setting, I sought to evoke the more intimate dimension of the man beyond the public figure, revealing a quieter, deeply personal presence that continues to resonate through memory.

Giorgio Armani: The Silence of Light
Created to mark the first anniversary of Giorgio Armani’s passing, this portrait transcends the conventions of figurative representation to become a meditation on memory, identity, and the enduring values embodied by one of the most influential figures in contemporary culture.
Consistent with my artistic practice—defined by an emotional realism suspended between perceptual experience and inner contemplation—the portrait is conceived not merely as a likeness, but as a place of the soul. Armani’s introspective gaze, captured in a moment of silent contemplation, reveals a man whose vision, discipline, and sensitivity formed an inseparable whole. His presence is discreet yet profoundly authoritative, expressing an elegance rooted not in display but in restraint, proportion, and essentiality.
The warm tones of Armani’s complexion—one of the most recognisable features of Armani’s public image—enters into dialogue with his iconic Armani blue sweater, a colour that has evolved into an authentic aesthetic and symbolic signature. Closely aligned with the chromatic atmosphere that has long characterised my own painting, this deep blue becomes an emotional space: a field of equilibrium, depth, and quiet harmony in which the figure emerges naturally while preserving the reserve and understated dignity that always distinguished Giorgio Armani.
Behind the portrait unfolds a landscape suspended between reality and vision: Rivalta Castle, a place intimately connected both to Armani’s personal memory and to the territory where he chose to find his final resting place. Far more than a geographical setting, the castle becomes a symbol of continuity—a landscape of remembrance where time appears to slow, preserving what endures beyond absence.
The nocturnal vision of the castle and its surrounding park, illuminated by artificial light emerging from darkness, evokes a distinctly metaphysical atmosphere reminiscent of The Empire of Light by René Magritte. The enigmatic coexistence of a luminous sky and a landscape immersed in shadow generates a suspended dimension that transcends the ordinary representation of reality, inviting the viewer into a contemplative space between the visible and the invisible.
Within this dialogue between light and darkness, the moon assumes the role of a metaphysical presence. Traversed by delicate vertical drips that evoke silent tears, it seems to participate in Armani’s farewell, transforming the sky itself into a discreet and universal act of homage. It does not signify an ending, but rather the enduring radiance of a creative spirit destined to outlive time.
The painting fully reflects my artistic language, in which water—the Trebbia River flowing beside Rivalta Castle—light, silence, and reflection become the essential elements of an inner narrative, revealing what belongs to the invisible realm of emotion. As in Giorgio Armani’s own aesthetic vision, essentiality is never synonymous with simplification; rather, it is the outcome of a rigorous process of refinement that removes the superfluous in order to reveal the essence of things.
This portrait is therefore conceived not simply as a tribute to one of the defining cultural figures of our time, but as an ideal encounter between two creative practices shaped by a shared sensibility: the pursuit of harmony, of timeless beauty, and of that rare form of elegance capable of speaking through silence.
